After closely looking at the laptop screen, if your see a very faint image, there is every possibility that the machine’s LCD lid close switch is stuck in the closed position. If this switch is in closed position the backlight will stay off, even with the LCD lid open. This is meant for conserving power when the laptop is on while the LCD is closed. Check this switch located close to back to which the LDC hinges. Tap the switch and see whether it helps to restore the screen backlight. If it does not help, try replacing the FL inverter board. Erring inverter can also be the culprit behind dim display and you may need to replace the faulty inverter.
Screen is solid white color or garbled
After connecting your laptop to an external computer monitor, you will be able to determine that your LCD screen or the LCD cable connection is not functioning, if the external monitor functions properly. On the other hand if the external monitor functions same as your LCD screen, the problem can be attributed to faulty integrated onboard video, which would require replacing the motherboard.
In the following scenarios you should look for replacing your laptop screen:
If your screen is cracked or damaged
If you want to upgrade the screen with a higher resolution screen
If there are several dead spaced on the screen which may be a result of dead pixels.
